Location and privacy

Device location is your choice

The site requests a one-time device location on a first visit or when you select “Detect my location.” Your browser controls permission. HTTPS is required in production. If permission is denied, you can choose a city or enter coordinates. No background location watcher is installed.

Coordinates are sent to this website to calculate local Panchang and resolve the time zone with a bundled lookup. The device-location lookup does not call an external reverse-geocoding service. The displayed label is “Current location”; it does not claim to know your home address.

Preferences on this device

The application stores your selected coordinates, time zone, calendar preferences, recent locations and saved days in browser local storage. Automatic location mode can refresh your position on a later visit. Selecting a city pins that choice instead. Clearing this site’s browser storage removes these local preferences.

Installed app and offline readings

The optional home-screen app uses the same website and permissions. Up to 20 daily readings opened online are saved in local browser storage with their original date, location and calendar settings, in English and Hindi. The offline reader labels them as saved readings, not new calculations. Clear them using “Clear offline readings” in the offline reader, or clear site data in your browser. Bookmarks alone do not download a calculation.

The service worker stores only the offline reader and app icons. It does not cache calculation API responses, city searches or provider responses. New calculations require an internet connection. Your device may evict local data when storage is low. Uninstalling may not clear browser storage; use the browser’s site-data controls when needed.

Requests and third parties

City-name searches are sent through our server to Open-Meteo’s GeoNames-based geocoding service. Optional independent checking, when enabled by the operator, sends the selected date, coordinates and time-zone offset to Prokerala. The source panel identifies the mode; default local generation does not make those Panchang-provider requests.

Fonts and icon styles are loaded from Google Fonts and jsDelivr. Their servers receive the network information needed to deliver those resources. This implementation adds no advertising or analytics tracker. Hosting operators may keep ordinary request logs; coordinates in API query strings or shared links can appear in those logs. Only share a precise-location link when you intend to disclose it.
